Semaglutide: Everything You Need to Know About the New Weight Loss Treatment
Semaglutide is a new FDA-approved weight loss treatment that has recently hit the headlines. Semaglutide shows great promise for patients who are having difficulty losing weight. Studies have demonstrated that Semaglutide reduced appetite, improved control of eating, and reduced food cravings in addition to improved glycemic control.
The largest clinical trial showed that adults taking semaglutide lost an average of almost 15% of their initial body weight — about 12% more than those who didn't take the medication.
The greatest weight loss benefits were observed when Semaglutide is used in combination with lifestyle changes, such as improved diet and consistent exercise.
Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. It mimics the GLP-1 hormone that is released in the gastrointestinal tract in response to eating. One role of GLP-1 is to prompt the body to produce more insulin, which reduces blood glucose (sugar). GLP-1 in higher amounts also interacts with the parts of the brain that reduce appetite and signal a feeling of fullness.
Semaglutide is a novel weight loss drug with recent extensive clinical studies to prove its safety and efficacy. Specifically, it is an injectable medication that increases satiety and reduces food intake. As a result, patients feel full for longer and eat less.
It is not a quick fix, though. It is still up to you to make smart food choices and get moving every day.
Semaglutide is the active ingredient found in medications like Ozempic and Wegovy. Our Semaglutide medication is hundreds of dollars cheaper than these commercial medications.
Wegovy, or Semaglutide, works by mimicking the effects of insulin. This increases satiety and reduces appetite. Semaglutide is a peptide that functions as a GLP-1 receptor agonist and acts on ghrelin receptors in the brain. Ghrelin is the hormone responsible for making us feel hungry when other hormones like leptin are not blocking it. Since Semaglutide blocks ghrelin, you feel less hungry throughout the day.
Semaglutide injections are an effective new treatment option for people looking to lose or maintain a healthy weight without extreme dieting or exercise. It is a once-a-week injection that easily fits into a busy schedule. The benefits are two-fold: reduce hunger pangs and lose weight faster when combined with a low-calorie diet.
Weight loss with Semaglutide Wegovy is a long-term solution. It takes hard work, discipline, and patience to lose weight—and Semaglutide is no exception. Do not expect the weight to melt away magically. Instead, think about how much you want it gone and what lifestyle changes you need to implement to make it happen.
Semaglutide is just one tool that can help you on your journey toward a healthier mind and body. You can see phenomenal results if you are willing to put in the effort. But as with any medical treatment, results vary per person. On average, our patients experience losing 15% of their body weight.

Yes, Semaglutide is safe. In June 2021, the FDA approved subcutaneous semaglutide for long-term weight management with higher doses of 1.7 and 2.4 mg once weekly. Medical supervision and professional dietary counseling is a crucial and mandatory part of our program to ensure that you are losing weight comfortably, safely, and sustainably.
The most common ide effects are nausea, constipation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Since semaglutide slows down your stomach emptying, it is very common to feel fuller faster, leading to some gastrointestinal discomfort. Most individuals who experience side effects note them as manageable, and not intense enough to stop use of semaglutide. Most patients note the most side effects the first week of increasing a dose. On our program, you will work closely with a nutritionist who will guide you on dietary strategies to lessen the side effects of semaglutide and maximize your weight loss efforts.
Most people will stay on semaglutide until they reach their weight loss goals. At this time, you may stop semaglutide, or slowly titrate off. Semaglutide is safe to take long term, and it can also be stopped and restarted at any time.
All patients begin at the starter dose which is 0.25 mg of semaglutide. You MUST be on a dose for two weeks before you can increase (titrate). The dose will typically double every two weeks based on tolerance and symptom management. The maximum dose is 2.4 mg. Not all patients will get to the higher doses. Ideal dose is very individual. This is why your follow up visits are very important. We are here to maximize your success!
Semaglutide injections start at $70 per week. The cost of the medication increases as the dose increases. Most patients spend around $340-$380 per month on the program.
Not really. This is a very flexible eating plan. Because this medication reduces your appetite, even if you have a "cheat meal" you will likely not over eat. However, this does not mean you can eat whatever you want whenever you want while on the program. You will meet with the Nutritionist on a 2-4 week basis to work on your own individual dietary goals, to ensure long term success once you are off the medication. If you do not work on improving your dietary habits while on the medication, your chance of regaining your weight is high.
