In summary, both semaglutide and tirzepatide offer promising options for individuals seeking weight loss and improved glycemic control. While they work in similar ways by targeting GLP-1 receptors, tirzepatide may provide greater weight loss benefits and potentially fewer side effects compared to semaglutide. Semaglutide, like any medication, carries potential risks and benefits. Overall, it has been found to be safe and effective when used as prescribed and under the supervision of a healthcare professional. However, it's essential to consider several factors regarding its safety:
Side Effects: Common side effects of semaglutide may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and constipation. These side effects typically diminish over time as the body adjusts to the medication. Medical supervision and professional dietary counseling is a crucial and mandatory part of our program to ensure that you are losing weight comfortably, safely, and sustainably.
The duration for which individuals take semaglutide can vary depending on several factors, including the underlying condition being treated (such as type 2 diabetes or obesity), individual response to treatment, and healthcare provider recommendations.
For individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus, semaglutide is often used as a long-term treatment to help manage blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of complications associated with diabetes. It may be prescribed as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes lifestyle modifications (such as diet and exercise) and other medications.
For individuals using semaglutide for weight management in obesity, the duration of treatment may vary. Clinical trials evaluating semaglutide for weight loss have typically lasted for several months, with participants achieving significant weight loss during the treatment period. However, the optimal duration of treatment for weight management may vary from person to person, and healthcare providers may recommend ongoing treatment based on individual response and weight management goals.
All patients begin at the starter dose which is 0.25 mg of semaglutide. You MUST be on a dose for two weeks before you can increase (titrate). The dose will typically double every two weeks based on tolerance and symptom management. The maximum dose is 2.4 mg. Not all patients will get to the higher doses. Ideal dose is very individual. This is why your follow up visits are very important. We are here to maximize your success!
Semaglutide injections start at $70 per week. The cost of the medication increases as the dose increases. Most patients spend around $340-$380 per month on the program.
This is a very flexible eating plan. Because this medication reduces your appetite, even if you have a "cheat meal" you will likely not over eat. However, this does not mean you can eat whatever you want whenever you want while on the program. You will meet with the Nutritionist on a 2-4 week basis to work on your own individual dietary goals, to ensure long term success once you are off the medication. If you do not work on improving your dietary habits while on the medication, your chance of regaining your weight is high.
Compounded Semaglutide is a patient-specific medication created in a state Board of Pharmacy or FDA licensed compounding facility per a prescription from a licensed healthcare professional. Compounded drugs are required to exclusively use ingredients from FDA-licensed facilities, and test sterile compounds for potency, sterility, and purity. While compounded drugs are legal they do not undergo pre-market approval from the FDA as they are not made in large batches for the public, compounds are made based on specific orders from a medical professional. Because of that the dose, route of administration, and efficacy may differ from commercially available, brand-name, drugs.
The amount of weight a person can lose with semaglutide or any other weight loss medication can vary significantly from person to person. Weight loss depends on various factors, including initial weight, diet, exercise habits, metabolism, genetics, and overall health.
Clinical trials have shown that semaglutide, when used as a treatment for obesity, can lead to significant weight loss in many individuals. For example, in the STEP trials (Semaglutide Treatment Effect in People with obesity), participants treated with semaglutide achieved an average weight loss ranging from 14% to 17% of their body weight over 68 to 68 weeks.
However, it's important to note that individual results may vary, and not everyone will experience the same degree of weight loss. Additionally, weight loss achieved with semaglutide or any other weight loss medication may be more effective when combined with lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet and regular exercise.
